My weekend in Las Vegas was phenomenal. I could not do it without all the support of my family and friends.
The descriptive term for the festival is correct; there were classes back-to-back with ladies auditioning to the So You Think You Can Bellydance? competition.
On my first full day there I took workshops from Colleena Shakti and Dalia Carella. They were both phenomenal. Colleena taught us some Indian dance that we could fuse into our bellydance repertoire, and Dalia kicked my ass with a full-length choreography. I tried to scribble as many notes as I possibly could.
That evening, I auditioned for the "So You Think You Can Bellydance?" competition, passed the first cut, and woke up the next morning at 6am to learn an amazing and short choreography by Cera Byer.
That evening we performed our pieces in front of a panel of judges and a full house. I felt awesome and, even though I didn't make the second cut, I was very proud of myself.
The next day, I woke up early to learn the second choreography they taught in the competition, even though I was not moving forward in it. It was a double cane choreography, taught by Ashtalea.
I took a workshop from Cera Byer ("Around the World Fusion"), a class which totally kicked my ass due to the nonstop action.
Unfortunately, that was my last dance class that weekend.
There was a lot of sight-seeing to be done and, extra unfortunately, a cold to be fought.
It's okay though, cos it's booty time!
